Letter: Congratulate administration effort

Gordon Gekko, a character in the movie "Wall Street," made popular the expression "Greed is good." Seems some in north Clark County bow to this idiocy as witnessed by Robert Kerr's June 11 letter, "Make allowance to refund taxpayers," crying that residents should get a kickback from a Battle Grounds schools surplus. Rather then congratulating the school board, administrators and staff for being frugal, he falls into the bottomless pit of name-calling. For shame.

For many years the Battle Ground schools under various superintendents and school boards labored under the tyranny of the 60 percent supermajority rule, which tied their hands in getting quality education and facilities to students. They were majestic in trying to do more and more with less financial support. To call them "liberals" is nonsense as it obscures the writer's real goal: "me." Kerr is saying he's retired, so let him have the extra dollars, let the kids fend for themselves by selling cookies, or the teachers taking salary cuts, or eliminating administrators.

To have a quality product, no matter what field, you need financial and staff support. Our students demand the best and this district is trying to do that while hearing carping from the nattering complainers of conservatism.

Battle Ground is building a quality school system and is to be congratulated.
