A decades-old school building that is no longer used will be burned in a firefighters’ training exercise late this month in Amboy.

Fire District 10 will burn the Amboy School at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 30. The 29,251-square-foot structure at state Highway 503 and Chelatchie Road opened in 1947 as a kindergarten through eighth grade school, before becoming a middle school.

The new Amboy Middle School opened in early 2008. Amboy Baptist Church rented part of the old building until June 2011.

Fire and police agencies from around the area have been using the building for training purposes since April.

Bricks from the building will be given away at no cost. The district’s website, http://battlegroundps.org, will post the times of the giveaway.
