ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay’s Evan Longoria ended a minor league rehab assignment early after feeling discomfort in his left hamstring.

The Rays said Longoria removed himself from a game with Triple-A Durham after one at-bat on Monday night. The three-time All-Star third baseman has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 1 because a partially torn hamstring and didn’t want to “push it” by continuing to play.

Team vice president of communications Rick Vaughn said Longoria will join the Rays Tuesday in Washington to continue rehabbing the injury.

Longoria was appearing in his second game of the minor league rehab stint. He was Durham’s designated hitter on Saturday, took Sunday off and started at third base on Monday night.
