Washougal mayor peddles flags to boost patriotic spirit

With Independence Day fast approaching, Washougal Mayor Sean Guard is doing his part to increase the amount of red, white and blue in his city and beyond.

As of Tuesday, Guard said he had received orders for around 80 American flags. The flags come courtesy of Valley Forge Flag, which makes American-made flags.

The flags cost $10 and will be distributed around June 30, Guard said.

The mayor had the idea to order and distribute the flags after driving around the county and repeatedly being disappointed by the lack of red, white and blue flags he saw in people’s yards.

Guard initially hoped to order 500 flags. That number appears unlikely for Friday’s deadline, but Guard said he was pleased the area would have at least 80 more flags than it did before.

You can order a flag by emailing Guard at seanguard@comcast.net.
