Petition to be delivered to Herrera Beutler today
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
Members of the liberal group MoveOn.org said they will deliver a campaign finance petition at noon today to the Vancouver office of U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas.
The petition, which is expected to have nearly 800 signatures from people within the congresswoman's district, will ask Herrera Beutler to support a constitutional amendment overturning a recent Supreme Court decision on campaign finance rules, said Tom Scharf, an organizer with the Vancouver Council of MoveOn.org.
The landmark Citizens United court decision ruled that the First Amendment can be interpreted in such a way that allows corporations, unions and wealthy individuals to create so-called Super PACs with the ability to make unlimited and anonymous donations to political campaigns.
Herrera Beutler's Vancouver office is in the O.O. Howard House at 750 Anderson St. in Officers Row.
