Portland Timbers forward Brent Richards will be at an Orchards-area Burgerville on Thursday to be recognized by the Timbers Army Northern Alliance.

The Northern Alliance is the Southwest Washington chapter of the Timbers Army supporters group. It will recognize Richards by presenting him with a special Northern Alliance scarf. A Camas native, Richards is in his first Major League Soccer season and is the first home grown player signed by the Timbers.

The scarfing ceremony is expected to happen between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m., part of a Timbers Army Northern Alliance charity event that runs 6 to 9 p.m. at the Burgerville at 10903 NE Fourth Plain.

Members of the Timbers Army Northern Alliance will be at the restaurant to collect funds for the Orchards Elementary School “Pennies for Peru” project. Students at Orchards Elementary raise money to assist a school in the remote mountains of Peru. Between 6 and 9 p.m., 10 percent of revenue at the Orchards Burgerville will be donated to the Pennies for Peru project, according to event organizer Troy Maxcy.

This is the second time the Timbers Army Northern Alliance has presented an honorary scarf. Last September, the group honored Vancouver resident Gus “Doc” Proano with a scarf. Proano coached some of the first youth soccer teams in Clark County and was a minority owner of the original Timbers franchise in the North American Soccer League.

Soccer on Friday at Kiggins Bowl — A doubleheader featuring the Portland Timbers under-23 team and the Portland Rain women’s team is scheduled for Friday at Kiggins Bowl in Vancouver. The Women’s Premier Soccer League match between the Rain and Emerald City kicks off at 4 p.m. The Premier Development League match between the under-23 sides from the Timbers and rival Seattle Sounders FC starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $8, $2 for ages 12 and younger, and is good for both games.
