SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities say a fire that tore through an area of San Francisco’s waterfront that will host the America’s Cup yacht race next year has caused more than $2 million in damage.
Wednesday’s blaze damaged an empty warehouse on Pier 29 that was being readied as a food concession venue for the race.
Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge tells the San Francisco Chronicle (http://bit.ly/MmooG0 ) that investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire but that it doesn’t appear suspicious.
Damage is estimated at $2.37 million.
The fire shut power to businesses on nearby piers. Most had power restored Thursday or were using generators.
