A late opening of the Interstate 5 Bridge has delayed commuters this morning. For the latest information and live photos, visit the Washington State Department of Transportation's website.
The southbound span of the bridge, which dates from the 1950s, has been undergoing a series of nighttime closures as workers seek to repair a set of rollers on the draw span that were coming out of their tracks.
The bridge was supposed to reopen for commuters by 5 a.m. But this morning it wasn't declared open until 5:34 a.m. according to a bulletin from the Oregon Department of Transportation, which manages the bridge.
There was no word on why the work ran overtime.
As a result, more than an hour later traffic was backed up and proceeding slowly from the vicinity of Main Street to the bridge. Some drivers were reporting a 30-minute delay.
