Spirig wins 2nd straight world series triathlon

KITZBUEHEL, Austria (AP) — Nicola Spirig of Switzerland won her second straight world series triathlon Saturday for her third career title.

Spirig, who also won in Madrid last month, beat Lisa Norden of Sweden in a sprint finish over the last 250 meters.

Spirig finished in 2 hours, 5 minutes, 37 seconds to beat Norden, who competed in her first world series event of the season, by 4 seconds.

Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand was another 2 seconds back in third, denying Barbara Riveros Diaz of Chile a podium finish by 2 seconds.

World champion Helen Jenkins of Britain sat out the race.

The final world series event before the London Olympics race is scheduled for Hamburg, Germany, on July 22.
