I’m sorry I wasn’t at the June 11 Vancouver City Council meeting to support those who want a city (if not county) ban on fireworks. I’m one of the homeowners who has to medicate my dog and who has to walk by the mess on my street for months afterwards because the responsible parties leave their mess in the street.
I grew up in Los Angeles. If you wanted a big fireworks display, you went to a stadium and watched and oohed and ahhed. Occasionally, I went.
As far as organizations needing to sell fireworks for fundraising, there are other ways. There are many metropolitan cities where fireworks are illegal. Organizations still raise money. It’s time, Vancouver, to realize we are a metropolitan area. Let’s get fireworks banned. It looks as if it’s too late for this year, but let’s prepare for next year.
