Rotschy Inc., which was awarded an $11.7 million contract earlier this month by Clark County, will start widening and improving a 1.7-mile section of Northeast 88th Street in Hazel Dell on July 2.

Construction will be in three phases, with workers concentrating on one road section and, when possible, leaving the rest open to traffic. Rotschy intends to finish the western section, Highway 99 to Northeast 25th Avenue, this fall.

The entire project is slated to be finished by October 2013.

Inside the construction zone, the street will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles and private vehicles for those who have no other way to reach homes or businesses. Drivers should expect delays. All other traffic should use Northeast 78th Street.

The project will rebuild one travel lane in each direction and add a continuous left-turn lane; add bike lanes; install planter strips, sidewalks, curbs and gutters; replace utility lines; and build stormwater improvements including rain gardens.
