Stanford wins 18th straight Directors’ Cup

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Stanford has extended its unprecedented run of overall athletic dominance.

The prestigious academic university won its 18th straight Directors’ Cup on Tuesday. The award is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Athletic Directors of America to the nation’s top overall athletic program.

Stanford finished with 1,384.25 points. Florida was second with 1,241 points and Ohio State third with 1,104.25 points. UCLA (1,064.75) and Texas (1,032.50) rounded out the top five.

Stanford won national championships in women’s soccer, women’s water polo and women’s lightweight rowing eight during the past year. Andrew Luck also was selected No. 1 overall in the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts, and Nnemkadi Ogwumike went first in the WNBA draft to the Los Angeles Sparks.
