CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs designated RHP Randy Wells for assignment Wednesday and recalled RHP Rafael Dolis from Triple-A Iowa.
Wells has struggled this season, going 1-2 with a 5.34 ERA over 28 2-3 innings. He’s worked out of the bullpen and been a starter, most recently filling in for injured righty Ryan Dempster.
Over his two starts in place of Dempster, Wells has thrown 6 2-3 innings, allowing 11 hits and eight walks with a 8.10 ERA. The five-year veteran started 82 games for Chicago in the previous three seasons, going 27-30 with a 4.05 ERA.
Dolis saved four games earlier this season before being demoted because of command issues. In 25 1-3 big-league innings, Dolis has struck out 11 batters and walked 17.
Dolis struck out 13 and walked four while earning three saves over 11 appearances for Iowa.
