INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Five-year-old gelding John Scott held off favored Rail Trip by a half-length Thursday in the feature race at Betfair Hollywood Park for his second win in three starts since a long layoff.

Making his first two-turn start in nearly three years, John Scott — ridden by Victor Espinoza — ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.25 and paid $7.20, $3.80 and $3.40 in the $65,930 allowance for older horses.

Rail Trip returned $2.80 and $3, and Worth Repeating paid $5.20 to show.

A California-bred son of Bertrando trained by Carla Gaines for owner and breeder Harris Farms Inc., John Scott has won four of six races overall and banked a career total of $193,144.
