Reading Roy G. Wilson's June 22 letter, "Flashing red will stop traffic," I wish he was right. Drive down Fort Vancouver Way past Clark College some day. Those pedestrian crosswalks are regulated by red lights. And some of the cars stop. Some stop and have a car behind them start blowing the horn.
Red lights don't stop traffic. Education does.
Perhaps it takes a written citation by a Vancouver Police officer to get impatient drivers to stop on red. Calming Fourth Plain would help; red lights might help. There is no guarantee of that from what I've seen of drivers in Vancouver.
