BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise State says the NCAA will reconsider scholarship sanctions imposed on the football program.
The university issued a statement Friday saying the NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee found that the scholarship penalties announced last September, in addition to Boise State’s self-imposed sanctions, were excessive.
Boise State’s voluntary measures included three reduced scholarships for one year and fewer preseason practices. The NCAA added scholarship reductions from 85 to 82 through the 2014 school year and limited contact during spring practice.
The NCAA placed Boise State on probation for three years and imposed other sanctions, citing major violations by the football program and other sports. The school appealed the football portion of the sanctions while accepting the remaining punishment placed on its tennis and track programs.
