KLAGENFURT, Austria (AP) — Faris Al-Sultan won the Ironman Austria triathlon in warm weather Sunday for his fifth career title.

European champion Al-Sultan overtook leader Philip Graves of Britain during the marathon and the German stayed in front for the rest of the race.

Al Sultan finished in an unofficial 8 hours, 11 minutes, 31 seconds to lead Daniel Fontana of Italy by 9:07. Pedro Gomes of Portugal was 14:59 back in third.

Days of high temperatures of over 90 degrees warmed the water of Lake Woerther, forcing organizers to stop athletes from wearing Neoprene wetsuits for the swimming stage.

Marino Vanhoenacker of Belgium, who won the event six times in a row from 2006-11, sat out this year’s race.
