What’s happening in Clark College athletics:

MEN’S BASKETBALL — NWAACC Tournament The West Division champion Penguins (25-2) face Yakima Valley (16-10) at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Sunday’s opponent will be either Chemeketa (19-7) or Bellevue (21-5). The tournament runs through Tuesday’s trophy round.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL — NWAACC Tournament Like the men’s team, the Clark women (20-6) also face Yakima Valley (20-7), a 10 a.m. tip at Kennewick on Saturday. Clark won at Yakima 83-75 on Dec. 3. The Penguins would then face either Lane (23-4) or Peninsula (17-9) on Sunday.

SPRING SPORTS

Baseball — Clark’s home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, a doubleheader against Chemeketa. Coach Don Freeman said pitching will be a strength for the Penguins. He said probable starting pitchers on Saturday would be Ryan Shockey and Prairie High grad Andrew Schenk.

Softball — Clark opens play at a preseason tournament in Richland. The Penguins play Blue Mountain and South Puget Sound on Saturday, and Columbia Basin and Big Bend on Sunday. Clark is coached this year by Ty Singleton, the 2003 Big 12 Conference coach of the year at Missouri.
