Binghamton survives UMBC 73-67 in OT

WEST HARTFORD, Ct. (AP) — Ben Dickinson scored 21 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds as Binghamton beat Maryland-Baltimore County 73-67 in the first round of the American East tournament on Thursday night.

After using a 14-3 run over the game’s final eight minutes to rally and send the game into overtime, UMBC took a 63-62 lead behind a Brian Neller 3-pointer with 3:32 left to play.

Binghamton (2-28), however, would not trail for long, scoring six unanswered points to take a 69-63 lead with just a minute remaining.

UMBC (4-26) cut the deficit to 69-67 but missed three 3-point attempts in the final 36 seconds.

Binghamton, which shot 42.6 percent (26 of 61) from the field, endured 12 lead changes and 10 ties to pull out the win.

Neller led UMBC with 18 but the Retrievers struggled from the field, hitting just 34.7 percent (26 of 75).
