Savannah State downs Maryland-Eastern Shore 73-54

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — Deric Rudolph scored 21 points and Savannah State took a big halftime lead in a 73-54 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore Thursday night in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.

The Tigers (21-10, 14-2) led 40-22 at halftime and were never in danger. They led by 24 points early in the second half.

Rudolph’s 21 points came on seven 3-pointers in 15 attempts. That was five more than Maryland-Eastern Shore (7-22, 4-12) made as a team.

Hillary Haley led the Hawks with 22 points. Tyler Hines was the only other Hawk in double figures with 12 points, along with 10 rebounds.

Savannah State shot 26 of 55 from the floor (47.3 percent) to the Hawks’ 21 of 51 (41.2 percent). Savannah State made 13 of 24 free throws while Maryland-Eastern Shore was 10 for 14. The difference was in 3-point shooting. The Tigers were 8 of 22, the Hawks 2 of 13.
