POULSBO, Wash. (AP) — One week after his death, mourners packed a church to remember Edward G. Johanson — the state park ranger killed in a head-on collision by a man suspected to be driving on drugs.

The Kitsap Sun reports that (http://bit.ly/zHdhLm) Johanson’s family was joined by Gov. Chris Gregoire, fire fighters, sheriff’s deputies, police officers and other first responders at Friday’s service.

Johanson was killed Feb. 24 when a 35-year-old Central Kitsap man crossed a centerline and hit Johanson’s car head on. The man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, but has not been charged because authorities are waiting for results of toxicology tests. Police believe the 35-year-old was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the crash.

Gregoire commended Johanson’s dedication to transform Kitsap Memorial State Park near Poulsbo into a wedding destination.
