SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Republicans are at the coast this weekend for their annual gathering, the Dorchester Conference at Seaside.

Dorchester dates to 1964, when it was initiated by Bob Packwood, later a U.S. senator. Packwood was at the conference Friday night along with the last Republican governor of Oregon, Vic Atiyeh.

This year’s conference comes near the end of a legislative session that has turned contentious. Toward the end of the week, Democrats urged Republican legislators to stick around in Salem to finish the session rather than letting it spill over into next week.

But, the Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/xYiOJI), the Republican co-speaker of the evenly divided House, Bruce Hanna, said at Seaside his caucus wouldn’t be pressured by time limits.

The conference will conduct a straw poll Sunday in the presidential race.
