40 evacuated in Ore. retirement home fire; all OK

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A fire in a stairwell prompted the evacuation of about 40 residents of a Eugene, Ore., retirement home.
The Register-Guard reports that no one was injured Monday afternoon in the fire at Churchill Estates. Residents were allowed to return after the fire was extinguished.
The cause is under investigation.
Damage was estimated at $20,000.
