OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A jury in Olympia is deliberating an attempted murder charge against a Lewis-McChord soldier accused of pouring lighter fluid on his wife and setting her on fire.

The trial of 35-year-old Duane Michael Rader went to the jury Monday in Thurston County Superior Court. He’s also charged with assault for a fire that left his wife with second-degree burns on her legs.

The Olympian reports (http://is.gd/SiDbyY ) the couple had been married six weeks in February 2011 when the fire occurred.

The prosecutor says Rader intended to kill her. The defense lawyer notes Rader’s wife initially reported she burned herself. Six months later, after the couple separated, she reported she had been attacked.
