MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a White City foster parent has been accused of assault and mistreatment of a year-old girl held under scalding water after defecating in the tub during her bath.

Doctors at the Rogue Valley Medical Center emergency room called police Sunday night about the child’s first- and second-degree burns.

Spokeswoman Andrea Carlson of the Jackson County sheriff’s department says investigators found that 28-year-old Trevor Emptage got upset with the girl and held her in scalding water.

She was burned from the waist down and taken to a Portland hospital because the burns were so severe.

The Medford Mail Tribune (http://bit.ly/xm4aXt) reports Emptage was arraigned Monday and held on $500,000 bail. It says the Department of Human Services was called in to remove a second child from the home.
