Spain leads FIFA rankings, Netherlands up to No. 2

ZURICH (AP) — World and European champion Spain remains at the top of FIFA’s monthly world rankings, the Netherlands has regained second spot and Argentina returns to the top 10.

The Dutch, which beat England 3-2 in an exhibition last week, retook the No. 2 spot from Germany after one month trading places. The Germans lost 2-1 to France.

Uruguay is at No. 4, followed by Brazil, which rose two places to fifth. England and Portugal each fell one place to sixth and seventh respectively.

Argentina climbed three places to No. 8, and Italy and Croatia completed the top 10.

Ivory Coast is the highest African team at No. 15.

Australia, at No. 20, heads Asian confederation nations and is top seed in a 10-nation draw for the final round of 2014 World Cup qualifying on Friday.
