NEW YORK (AP) — A woman charged with extorting $6,000 from New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman may testify next week before a grand jury weighing the case.

A lawyer for Louise Neathway (NEETH’-way) said she might want to go before the grand jury and Manhattan prosecutors on Wednesday set a March 15 date for her to testify. She had been scheduled to find out Wednesday whether she had been indicted. Instead, that proceeding was rescheduled for March 21.

Neathway denies allegations of threatening to damage Cashman’s reputation to get him to pay her. Defense lawyer Rory Bellantoni says the charges stem from “a consensual relationship that went bad.” Neathway’s being held on $300,000 bond.

Neathway, a British native, has a history of similar arrests.

A Cashman spokesman declined to comment.
