Local law enforcement agencies will start sending out extra officers for DUI patrols in Clark County starting Friday. The campaign will last through March 18.

Officers from Washington State Patrol, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Battle Ground, Camas, Ridgefield and Vancouver police departments will participate in extra patrols on local roads, according to a sheriff’s office release.

In 2011, 45 impaired drivers were arrested in the county during a similar March campaign. In 2010, 73 were arrested.

“We are encouraging everyone to do their part this St. Patrick’s holiday season to prevent an impaired driver from getting behind the wheel,” Sgt. Steve Shea wrote.

Extra patrols are part of the Clark County Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force. Overtime shifts are paid by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
