WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Christopher Tolson scored 16 points and Hampton upset top-seed Savannah State 59-46 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday night.
The Tigers (21-11), who had a 13-game winning streak snapped, had scored at least 50 points in the previous 18 games.
Hampton (12-20), the defending conference tournament champion, also got 12 points from Darrion Pellum and 10 by Wesley Dunning.
Leading 48-44 with 2:38 remaining, Hampton finished the game with an 11-2 run. The Pirates made 9 of 10 free throw attempts in the final 1:48 while Savannah State was 1 for 8 from the field during the run. Hampton made 16 of 20 free throw attempts for the game.
