A Vancouver man was hit and killed Tuesday night on Oregon Highway 30, officials said.
According to an Oregon State Police bulletin, James C. Whitehorse, 25, of Vancouver was standing or walking on the right lane of the highway between Scappoose and Warren around 11 p.m. when he was hit from behind by a 1999 GMC SUV.
Whitehorse was walking west from the Scappoose area and was hit in an unlit, limited-visibility area.
Joel R. Geduck, 18, of Warren, who was driving the SUV, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
“Alcohol is a possible pedestrian factor,” police said.
Oregon State Police, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Helens Police Department, Scappoose Police Department, Scappoose Rural Fire District and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the crash.
The highway was blocked until about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
