Ito earns 4th ski jump World Cup victory

TRONDHEIM, Norway (AP) — Daiki Ito of Japan won his fourth ski jump World Cup event of the year Thursday after setting a hill record in Trondheim.

Ito jumped a record 141 meters in the second round on the large hill to score a total of 295.1 points. Germany’s Richard Freitag led after the first round but finished second with 287.9 points, while Olympic champion Simon Ammann of Switzerland was third with 285.3.

Anders Bardal extended his lead in the World Cup standings after finishing fourth with 283 points. The Norwegian now has 1,269 points, 112 ahead of Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer, who finished 12th. Andreas Kofler, also of Austria, is third in the standings with 1,098 points.
