SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Salem police say a patrol car had its lights flashing during a traffic stop Thursday night when it was rear-ended.

One officer in the patrol car suffered a minor injury. He was treated at a hospital and released. A second officer who was on the sidewalk at the time was not injured.

A man and woman in that car that hit the patrol car were knocked unconscious and had to be extricated by firefighters. They were taken to Salem Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The impact pushed the patrol car into the vehicle that had been pulled over. That driver was not injured.

Police say it appears alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. Criminal charges are pending.
