SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Gov. John Kitzhaber’s administration has told many state agencies to hold off hiring managers and supervisors. That extends part of a freeze it began three months ago when Oregon’s state revenue collections came up short
In the session that ended Monday, the Legislature acted to prune managerial ranks. One move was to pass a bill setting a benchmark ratio of 11-to-1 for workers to managers.
The Salem Statesman Journal (http://stjr.nl/xqfnpl) reports that few agencies meet or come close to that. It says the overall numbers suggest that 1,100 managerial jobs could be cut to meet the requirement.
