OSLO, Norway (AP) — Marit Bjoergen of Norway won the women’s 30-kilometer classic mass start event at a World Cup meet Sunday, boosting her lead in the overall standings.
The triple Olympic champion finished the race in 1 hour, 26 minutes, 9.8 seconds after breaking away from compatriot Therese Johaug and Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk two-thirds through the race.
Trailing Bjoergen by about a minute, Kowalczyk and Johaug battled for second place over the last two kilometers. Kowalczyk finally won out, finishing 51.9 seconds behind Bjoergen, while Johaug was third, 53.3 seconds back.
