STANWOOD, Wash. (AP) — The 7-year-old daughter of a Marysville police officer is hospitalized after being shot by her young sibling.

The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says the shooting happened Saturday afternoon in the officer’s van in Stanwood. The sibling found a loaded handgun in the vehicle and fired it, striking the girl. Her condition wasn’t immediately known Sunday.

The sheriff’s office says their parents were nearby when it happened.

Marysville Police Chief Rick Smith says the department’s thoughts are with the officer and his family.
