GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The NHRA event in Gainesville has been postponed until Monday.

Intermittent showers forced the sanctioning body to halt elimination rounds several times Sunday. The final drizzle caused a delay of 3 hours, 29 minutes, prompting officials to shut down the drag strip for the night.

Racing will resume at 10 a.m. Monday, with forecasts calling for a 20 percent chance of rain.

Before the rain, two of the fastest qualifiers were eliminated. Top-seeded Cruz Pedregon was ousted in the Funny Car division, and top-seeded Allen Johnson was knocked out in Pro Stock.

Morgan Lucas, the No. 1 seed in Top Fuel, nearly got an early exit, too. His parachute deployed way early in his run, but Brady Kalivoda failed to take advantage when he spun his tires in the other lane.
