CHELTENHAM, England (AP) — Kauto Star is set to run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday.

The trainer of the 12-year-old steeplechaser says he and owner Clive Smith “have given Kauto Star the green light … after a very good schooling session” on Monday.

Kauto Star’s participation in the celebrated British race, which he won in 2007 and ’09, was in doubt after the horse fell during training last week.

Writing in his column on the Betfair website, trainer Paul Nicholls says Kauto Star “was foot perfect and looked magnificent” and will race “barring any mishaps.”

Kauto Star, one of British racing’s most famous racehorses, will renew his rivalry with defending champion Long Run in the Gold Cup.
