OHSU Brain Awareness Season lectures scheduled

Oregon Health & Science University Brain Awareness Season continues with a lecture March 19.

Dr. Alan Leshner, executive director of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, will speak about the social and ethical issues that come with advances in neuroscience.

The lecture is at 7 p.m. March 19 at Portland’s Newmark Theater, 1111 S.W. Broadway.

The series continues with events at 7 p.m. on April 10 and April 26 in the Oregon Ballroom of the Oregon Convention Center, 777 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Jonah Lehrer, journalist and author of “Imagine – How Creativity Works,” will speak about creativity and the brain at the April 10 event.

Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, will speak about addiction and what neuroscience is learning to prevent addiction at the April 26 event.

A March 12 lecture by Story Landis, director of the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. June 25 at the Newport Theater.
