EINDHOVEN, Netherlands (AP) — PSV Eindhoven has fired coach Fred Rutten after a string of poor results threatened the team’s Dutch league title hopes.
Rutten’s fate was sealed Sunday when his team lost 3-1 to NAC Breda, its third defeat in just more than a week. That followed a 4-2 Europa League loss at Valencia and a 6-2 thrashing by title rival FC Twente.
PSV remains fourth in the Dutch Eredivisie, four points behind leader AZ Alkmaar.
Rutten joined PSV in 2009 after his firing by Schalke in the German league. He was due to leave PSV at the end of the season.
