SAO PAULO (AP) -- Ricardo Teixeira is stepping down as head of the Brazilian soccer federation and the 2014 World Cup organizing committee. The decision ends his contentious 23-year stint in charge of soccer in Brazil.
Teixeira had taken a medical leave of absence last week, but on Monday the Brazilian federation said he is leaving for good to look after his health.
