TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself in Tacoma with a gun he found in a car.
Police Officer Naveed Benjamin told KIRO-TV the shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when a family had stopped for gas.
Benjamin says both adults were out of the car when the toddler found the gun near or under a seat. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.
KING-TV reports investigators believe the mother’s boyfriend left his gun inside his car while he pumped gas. The boy’s mother also left the car to buy some items inside the gas station.
The man’s 4-year-old-daughter was also with them at the time, but she is unhurt.
