STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State’s trustees are considering structural changes to improve transparency including the addition of an outreach committee and increased advisory roles for faculty, students and alumni.

Board chair Karen Peetz told a University Faculty Senate meeting Tuesday that the proposals are meant to dispel the perception of a lack of transparency.

Some faculty members had been critical in the past of the trustees’ actions in the aftermath of child sex abuse charges against retired assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

But Peetz didn’t face heated questions during about a 45-minute appearance before faculty Tuesday.

Peetz also said the school had to look at having the proper balance between athletics and academics, saying an “underbelly of athletics” had to be studied closely and controlled in a different way.
