WA liquor board may extend Seattle closing time

SEATTLE (AP) -- The state Liquor Control Board is expected to make a decision by early May about the city of Seattle's request to extend the closing time for bars past 2 a.m.
The proposal is part of Mayor Mike McGinn's nightlife initiative to enliven the city's music and entertainment scene and to address the violence and disorder that often accompanies the "push out" at closing time.
The Seattle Times reports (http://is.gd/lDrBrB ) neighborhood activists opposed the idea at a hearing Monday, saying it would mean more alcohol consumption, drunken driving and demands on police.
The board also has scheduled hearings on the proposal in Vancouver, Kennewick and Spokane.
