BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Police have identified a man charged with opening fire outside a Southeast Texas courthouse, killing one person and wounding at least three others.

Bartholomew Granger was at court Wednesday morning with family members in Beaumont, 80 miles east of Houston. Authorities say the 41-year-old left court after 11 a.m., went to his pickup truck and drew a weapon.

He allegedly opened fire and fled in the truck, running over one of the people he injured in the shootout with authorities. Authorities say he left his truck a few blocks from the courthouse and went into a local business, where he briefly took hostages.

Granger eventually surrendered and was taken to a local hospital. He has been treated and released and is being held on murder charges without bond.
