PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Republicans have announced they are cancelling a GOP presidential candidate debate scheduled for next week in Portland because they couldn’t get enough candidates to participate.

The debate was supposed to occur on Monday. But GOP chairman Allen Alley said Thursday it’s being called off.

Earlier this week a spokeswoman for Mitt Romney said he wouldn’t attend because the Illinois primary is happening the day after the now-canceled debate.

Alley says the candidates have become less interested in debates as they focus on winning delegates in individual states.
