Wind knocks wall onto WA construction worker
Thursday, March 15, 2012
BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) -- A Bellingham fire official says a worker was injured when a strong wind gust knocked a wall onto him at a construction site.
Fire Chief Bill Boyd told the Bellingham Herald (http://is.gd/7dhhb3 ) the subcontractor was working Thursday on the top story of a 35-unit complex. He had apparently been helping to lift a section of wall into place when the wind knocked it down, trapping him.
Co-workers freed the unidentified man and he was taken to St. Joseph hospital. Initial reports suggested he suffered a compound leg fracture.
Bellingham was hit with 50 mph wind gusts.
State Department of Labor & Industries spokesman Hector Castro says his agency will investigate.
