BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — Bellevue police say a 48-year-old woman had just stepped off her regular Metro transit bus when she was struck and killed by the vehicle.

Police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate says the bus driver began to drive away “when he heard a thump, thump.” The driver stopped and found the Bellevue woman in the roadway. She died at the scene Thursday evening.

The spokeswoman says there’s no indication drugs or alcohol were involved but tests will be run on the driver.

The Seattle Times reports a second woman was hospitalized in critical condition after she stepped off a curb Thursday morning in downtown Seattle and was hit by a Metro bus.

Seattle police say that bus driver had a green light and the right of way.
