RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — It was all about singles, strikeouts and shaved heads for the Wake Forest and North Carolina State baseball teams.

After the Wolfpack topped the Demon Deacons 6-2 on Saturday, over 84 fans, players and coaches from both teams had their heads shaved on the field as part of “BaseBald” — a fundraising effort that raised more than $42,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and its work against childhood cancer.

NC State wore green jerseys for St. Patrick’s Day and the “BaseBald” effort, while Wake Forest was decked out in gold tops, representing the ribbon color for childhood cancer. The Wolfpack also auctioned off their game-worn jerseys, with winning bidders able to submit names of loved ones who battled cancer for the name plate on the back of the jersey.
