My goodness, I think we may have seen a miracle. We actually have an elected official, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, who wants to know what her constituents believe and want . What a novel concept: Ask the voters (taxpayers) for input before wasting more tens of millions of dollars for more “studies” on a new bridge.
Of course, our local officials want to delay such a vote for many months, perhaps forever or at least until it is too late to change anything about the new bridge (light rail, bicycle lanes, etc).
Does this bring back memories of a taxpayer-funded hotel that is going broke, and that we were denied the right to vote on? How about bridge tolls, which when in place could be designed to never expire but become a new source of revenue for our officials in Olympia to squander as their personal agendas dictate?
Thank God that we have someone like Herrera Beutler, who is trying to protect the residents of this state.
