NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are up after struggling for direction earlier in the day.
The Dow Jones industrial average spent most of the morning in the red, but is up about 12 points at 13,245.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 and Nasdaq composite are also up after falling in the first few minutes of trading. The S&P 500 is up five points to 1,409. The Nasdaq composite index is up 18 points to 3,073.
Apple rose nearly 2 percent Monday after announcing it will pay a shareholder dividend. Sprint Nextel fell nearly 5 percent after a Bernstein analyst said he thought new incarnations of the iPhone wouldn’t work too well on Sprint’s network.
